October 29, 2013

What a great and busy weekend the Our Lady of Victory community had! Here are some highlights from the weekend.

Friday afternoon there was a kaleidoscope of sights, sounds, and smells.  In the all purpose room, participating in a language arts extension, the kindergartens were making s’mores. Yumm… At the same time the first and sixth graders were counting and roasting pumpkin seeds and painting their pumpkins. The all purpose room smelled great and the pumpkins were very colorful!

Also on Friday afternoon the sounds of music could be heard.  The students in the recorder class and band are beginning to make real music!  Those melodious sounds were a joy to hear.

The sounds, sights and smells continued through Saturday.  JV boys played in the PAL football tournament at OLV School.  The tournament was a great success and the boys were triumphant, winning 2 of three games. They won the consolation bracket and brought a trophy back to school.  The snack bar was fully stocked with breakfast burritos, hot dogs, drinks, candy, popcorn and much more.  The food smelled and tasted delicious and the sound of our fans cheering our team on was awesome!

A few miles down the road at St. Anthony’s School, the JV girls volleyball team was serving, bumping, and passing their way through their tournament.  Although they did not place in this tournament, they ended the season with a 5 and 2 record!  They had an excellent season and many many cheering fans.

Meanwhile back at Our Lady of Victory School in the Parish Center, Betty Kempen, Amy Hirata, and Lisa Cavazos have been busy working on the silent auction.  There will be many great items to bid on next Saturday!  If you enjoy sports you will have the opportunity to bid on sports banners, cups and helmets from a variety of teams.  There are children’s games, cooking accessories, jewelry and much more.  The ladies were working hard but found some time to laugh and enjoy each others company.  It is because of hardworking parents our auction is successful.  Thank you!

Don’t forget to buy your auction ticket or if you can’t make it a cash raffle ticket! Go in peace and don’t run in the halls.

St. Jude the Apostle
St. Jude, also called Thaddeus, is the apostle who at the Last Supper asked the Lord why he showed himself only to the disciples and not to the world.  He is the patron saint of lost and desperate causes.
