May 19, 2015

The year is quickly coming to an end and there is so much to do!  In just a few days our 8th grade students will graduate and the preschool and kindergarten students will be promoted.  Our students grow up so fast and leave us too soon!

The third grade students received the Body of Christ for the first time on Sunday! This special day was enhanced by Father Dan’s homily, the music, and of course the beautiful children!  It takes two years to prepare for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist.  Both Ms. Perez and Mrs. Sutton have spent many hours preparing our students and their joint efforts paid off.  The third graders were able to answer Father Dan’s questions and they were engaged and attentive during Mass. I thank both Ms. Perez and Mrs. Sutton for their dedication to our faith and our students. Congratulations third grade families!

Our second grade families also inspired me this weekend! With the leadership of Mrs. Vetter and Mrs. Trukki these families hosted a reception for our third graders.  The tables were decorated, the food was delicious, and the coffee was hot!  Thank you for your gift of time, talent and treasure second grade families!

Last Thursday our music students had a chance to show their stuff! Performing for the student body and guests were the guitar students, choir, beginning band, and intermediate band.  This year we heard the percussion section of the band perform a drum line!  I was impressed with the musical progress our have made this year.  Thank you parents for encouraging your children to practice!  I thank our instructors for making our program a success! Ms. Cabral, Miss Cash, Mrs. Wukits, Mr. Cotta, Miss Enos, Mr. Anderson, and Mr. Nettell, you have all made music come to life at OLV! Thank you!

Last Tuesday God called Pat Quinto home.  Mrs. Quinto was an OLV alumni class of 1956.  She, and her husband Amos, sent all six of their children and most of their grandchildren to Our Lady of Victory School.  Mr. and Mrs. Quinto have supported our school for many years and their good works are still evident to this day!

Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. †

On a final note…Last week I hired Mr. Jesse Gonzales for the 2015-2016 school year for the 5th grade teaching position! Mr. Gonzales’ love of God, children, and teaching is very evident and the staff is looking forward to working with him!  Go in peace and don’t run in the halls!

Sincerely,

Faith Corner

Saint Bernardion of Siena (1380-1444) Before he became a Franciscan, St. Bernardion’s achievements showed what the young can achieve if given the chance.   While still a student at the University of Siena he took charge of the hospital there when a flu epidemic killed most of the staff.  He also cared for his bedridden aunt until her death.

Pray For– Charlie DeGrange and his family;  Sara McCraw, Stacey Speir, and the entire Quinto family, as they grieve the loss of their mother Pat Quinto; Mrs. Marquez and her family as they mourn the loss of their grandfather; Bill Durham as he goes through chemo therapy.

Thank youTo all the second grade parents who helped with the First Communion reception; to Ms. Perez and Mrs. Sutton for preparing our third grade students for the sacrament of First Eucharist; to the volunteer band instructors; to Mrs. Trukki for all the things she does for others.

Prayer– Good Jesus, give me a deep love for Thee, that nothing may be too hard for me to bear from Thee.
