August 26, 2014

I have always loved the first days of school.  It is a reminder to me that summer is coming to an end and cooler weather is just around the corner.  The school is once again filled with the energy the children bring. The students are excited to be back with their friends and they are filled with anticipation and wonder about the new school year. This year’s first days of school were the best I have experienced!

Father Dan spent time with us each day last week.  On Wednesday Father attended Morning Prayer and visited all the classrooms.  He shared with each class reminders such as, to pray to their guardian angles.  He also encouraged the students in the fourth through the eighth grades to become altar servers.

On Friday, Father Dan blessed each section of the school. From traveled to the hallway to the field praying and blessing our space, students and community.  Each prayer and blessing was specific to that space.  For example in the lunchroom he asked for blessings for the cooks as they prepared nutritious food for our students.  In seventh and eighth grade he prayed that our students be leaders in the community.

The blessing was followed by Mass in the Grotto!  It was beautiful!  Even though it was very hot, our children were attentive and well behaved.  The volunteer choir sang beautifully and the musicians were excellent.  Father spoke of the Holy Spirit and how we can call on him to enliven us during this school year! Thank you Father Dan!

Have a blessed week! Go in peace and don’t run in the halls!

Saint Margaret Ward (-1588)  St. Margaret was a servant of a family in London. She was arrested after helping a priest to escape from prison.  Even under severe torture she refused to reveal his hiding place or to renounce her faith.  She was executed on August 30, 1588.

Special Thanks To: Knights of Columbus council 4440.  The Knights repaired and painted backstops, outdoor benches and the grotto gate!

Pray For: Mr. Joshua Chipps as he recovers from a car accident; Mr. James DeMera and his family, for their continued spiritual support to our school and for Charlie DeGrange and his family.

Prayers of the Day Lord, help my life to be well and whole, secure in the midst of danger.
