May 27, 2014

I hope all of you had a restful three day weekend and are ready for the very busy next two weeks!  If you have not turned in your registration for next year, please do so as soon as possible.  Next year’s Kindergarten, first, second and third grades are filling up fast and registration is the only way to save your student’s spot for the 2014- 2015 school year.

Next year’s teaching staff is as follows:

  • Kindergarten- Justina Marquez
  • First Grade- tba
  • Second Grade- Elisa Perez
  • Third Grade- Allison Sutton
  • Fourth Grade- Cathy Cash
  • Fifth Grade- Rebekah Wukits
  • Sixth Grade- tba
  • Seventh Grade- tba
  • Eighth Grade- Lynn Mason

Three of our current staff members will not be returning next school year.  Mrs. Esthela Gonzales will be taking a year off to stay home with her baby, Isabella Grace. She hopes to return to us following year.  Ms. Cook and Mrs. Anderson have decided to move on to other area schools next school year.   Mrs. Gonzales, Ms. Cook and Mrs. Anderson have worked hard for our students and our community.  All of their efforts and good works are greatly appreciated and we will continue to keep them in our prayers.

New to our staff next year will be Allison Sutton and she will teach the third grade students.  Mrs. Sutton is an Our Lady of Victory and San Joaquin Memorial alumni and she comes to us with fourteen years of teaching experience from Madera Unified. We are very blessed to have her on our team!

I am currently interviewing teachers the or first, sixth and seventh grade positions.  We have had excellent teachers apply for these positions and I will keep all of you informed as final decisions are made.

Also leaving us next year is Mrs. Schumacher, our school librarian.  Mrs. Schumacher has worked for Our Lady of Victory School for sixteen years!  Over these years she has grown our library to over 5,000 books, coached many academic decathlon teams and developed relationships with all our students while encouraging them to be life long learners!  Mrs. Schumacher will continue to work for Scholastic Company and she will substitute for us next school year. She has been an important part of our school community and I will miss her sage advice!

Mrs. Martin wishes to continue working part time next year.  She will step down from teaching and take over the library duties from Mrs. Schumacher. She will also be helping out in the classrooms from time to time as well.  She will be a wonderful librarian and I am glad that she will be staying with us!

Last Friday night was the end of the year sports awards program.  There was great food and everyone had a wonderful time.  Mrs. Trukki and her team of coaches had an excellent year! Go in peace and don’t run in the halls!

Faith Corner

Saint Antony of Padua (1195 – 1231) Saint Antony was the first Franciscan theologian.  His sermons are full of gentleness, but her reproved the wicked with fearless severity, especially the oppressors of the weak.  He is the patron saint of the lost and found!

Special Thanks To: Allison Trukki and all the coaches, parents, and students, who made this year’s sports, program a success.

Pray For: Ms. Cook’s father as he recovers from surgery; Father Dan Avila as he prepares to begin his ministry at Our Lady of Victory Parish.; Mr. Joshua Chipps as he recovers from a car accident; Mr. James DeMera and his family, for their continued spiritual support to our school.

Prayers of the Day Lord, help me finish those things that You have helped me to start.
