May 21, 2014

We have only three weeks of school left and I have so much to share!  This week I will provide you some important updates.

The results for the spring ITBS tests are in and there is good cause for celebration.  Due to the concentrated efforts of our teaching staff, students and parents, our scores greatly improved!! Students in grades second, third, fourth and fifth will be receiving their individual scores in math and reading before school is out.

There were many students whose spring test scores far exceeded the fall scores however, I was most impressed with improvement in math computation for all the students!  Teachers implemented new math strategies during math instruction and throughout the day. The hard work paid off: second grade math equivalency jumped from 2.1 in the fall to 3.7 this spring. Third grade went from 2.6 in the fall to 3.6 in the spring.  Fourth grade scored a 2.7 in fall and leaped to a 4.5 in spring.  The fifth graders scored 4.1 in the fall and jumped to 6.8 in the spring.  These are significant improvements! Please congratulate your student, child’s teacher and of course, yourself!

Please don’t forget registration is due this Friday, May 23rd.  The kindergarten through third grades are filling up quickly and we are already getting registration forms from new families.  We appreciate your help making the transition to next school year a smooth one.

It is time to nominate new board members for the school board and parent club board.  These two groups do very important work for our community and we desperately need new volunteers.  The only requirement necessary to be a one of these leaders is to care about sharing Catholic education with God’s children.  You may nominate as many people as you wish and it is okay to nominate yourself! Have a restful three day weekend, go in peace and don’t run in the halls!

Sincerely,

Faith Corner

Saint Christopher Magallanes  Saint Christopher was born in Jalisco in 1869.  When the government persecution of the Catholic Church began and the seminaries were closed, he opened a small local auxiliary seminary.  He was eventually arrested and was executed without a trial, but not before giving his remaining possessions to his executioners and giving them absolution!

Special Thanks To: The booster club for sponsoring the luau dance this Saturday! Jeff Cardinale for organizing the Mother/Son bowling event!

Pray For: Ms. Cook’s father as he recovers from surgery. Father Dan Avila as he prepares to begin his ministry at Our Lady of Victory Parish.

Prayers of the Day Lord, please give me new grounds for believing.
