March 25, 2014

It was a great weekend for the Mighty Rebels! On Saturday our track team competed in the annual PAL Track Meet.  The team was comprised of kindergarten through 7th graders.  They have been training for several weeks and the team’s hard work paid off!  Many of our athletes placed in their events!  The best part of the meet was watching the team members encourage one another! Results from the track meet will be posted on the trophy case in the main hall.  Go Big Red!

There are two reasons our track team was successful. The first was student effort and the second was great coaching!   Mrs. Trukki organized a fantastic coaching team.  They were   Mrs. Trukki, Mrs. MontesNation, Mr. Moya and Mr. Collins.  They spent many hours conditioning and preparing our young athletes.  Also our coaches spent Saturday making sure each team member was in the right place at the right time in addition to doing their part to run the track meet.  Their positive attitudes inspired our team to do their best and made the OLV community very proud!

Also on Saturday, at the state level of Knights of Columbus Free Throw competition, Cece Bispo and Gibson Patton took first place!  On Sunday, Liam Montes organized family and friends to participate in the Mud Run. All the monies he raised will benefit Children’s Hospital!

This Thursday the student body will participate in our annual penny war.  This year we are raising money for the Right to Life organization and seminarians working with Father Avila.  Students are planning their strategies for the upcoming event but so far there are only a few pennies in each class.  Please help us support these two great groups!

On a final note it is not too late to play golf with us this Friday or buy a chance to win $10,000 (see attached flyer for more info)!  Come and have some fun!  Go in peace and don’t run in the halls.

Saint Benedict (480-547) St. Benedict organized various small communities of monks and nuns in various places.  He created rules to guide the communal life of monasteries, such as the Rule of St. Benedict.  These rules can still help us today; they drag our eyes up to the stars but keep our feet firmly on the ground!

Special Thanks To: For our spring sports coaches, Mr. Collins, Mrs. Montes Nation, Mr. Moya, Mrs. Wukits, Mrs. McCraw, Mr. Diaz, Mr. Hernandez, Mr. Halverson, Mr. Esquivel, and Mrs. Trukki! To all the families who helped with the track team last Saturday!

Pray For: Monsignor Moreton’s family to find peace during their time of grief.   For the Balderas family as they grieve the loss of Mrs. Balderas’s Mother.
