March 18, 2014

Last week the school hosted its first Town Hall meeting!  The topic for this meeting was standardized testing and how OLV graduates do in high school. One of the guest speakers was Mr. Edward Borges who is the principal at San JoaquinMemorialHigh School.  Mr. Borges shared some information that is worth repeating.

Mr. Borges shared that the students from Our Lady of Victory School come to San Joaquin Memorial prepared for the rigors of high school.  He said that there are currently twenty six OLV students attending SJM and of those students sixteen have earned a place on the honor roll. He went on to say that the editor of the SJM newspaper and this year’s valedictorian are OLV alumni!  One of our parents asked Mr. Borges if he noticed any patterns of deficiency among our alumni and the response was no. He saw a pattern of proficiency! This was great news!  If you were unable to attend last Thursday’s meeting and you have concerns about your child’s ITBS scores or you are unsure whether you will be returning to OLV next year, please let me know!  I will share all the information about our school and our scores by phone or in person.

April 15th is the deadline to apply for financial aid for the 2014-2015 school year!  To receive any scholarship money each family must submit a FAIR application. If you received aid last year you will need to reapply for the up coming year.  To this date we have only twelve families who have applied and last year we had over forty.  Please don’t miss out on this opportunity!

Congratulations to our students who participated in Peach Blossom this year!  They all had a wonderful experience and performed well.  We will have a repeat student performance on Friday March 21st at 1:30pm in the Grotto.  Have a blessed week, go in peace and don’t run in the halls!

Saint Patrick (385- 461)  St. Patrick endured many hardships and faced oppositions even from his friends and fellow Christians.  He is remembered for his simplicity and pastoral care, for his humble trust in God, and for his fearless preaching of the gospel to the very people who had enslaved him in his youth.

Special Thanks To: Mrs. Perez, Miss Cash and Mrs. Wall for coaching the Peach Blossom team.  For our Spring sports coaches, Mr. Collins, Mrs. Montes Nation, Mr. Moya, Mrs. Wukits, Mrs. McCraw, Mr. Diaz, Mr. Hernandez, Mr. Halverson, Mr. Esquivel, and Mrs. Trukki!

Pray For: Monsignor Moreton’s family to find peace during their time of grief.   For the Balderas family as they grieve the loss of Mrs. Balderas’s Mother.

Prayers of the Day Lord, make me a tree of life and water my spirit.
