March 5, 2014

It’s time for meatless Fridays!  Dust off your George Forman Grills and get ready for some good eats!  A tuna sandwich, tomato soup and hostess snowballs is my favorite Lenten meal.  Consider these other options:  Homemade cheese pizza, tuna casserole, grilled cheese sandwich, bean burritos, cheese quesadilla, or split pea soup (without the ham).   Get creative – and whatever your choice is for a Lenten meal, make it delicious and nutritious.

During the season of Lent, Catholics are required to fast and abstain.  Children under the age of fourteen do not have to do this; however this doesn’t mean they cannot follow the observances.  Not having meat on Fridays during Lent is an excellent way to develop these Lenten practices as well as giving up something they like for the duration of the Lenten season.

Lent can be an important time for reflection and change.  In going without the things we enjoy, we can move our focus from worldly to spiritually.

Deacon Kurt and Kim O’Connor did a wonderful job organizing Monsignor Moreton’s funeral services Sunday and Monday.  Both the Rosary and the funeral Mass were a beautiful tribute to his many years of service.  He will be missed immensely!

Go in peace and don’t run in the halls.
