As you know, we spent last week celebrating Catholic Schools Week. Students participated in fun activities and service projects while showcasing their Catholic School pride! We kicked off the celebration with a blast as our Alumni committee hosted the 6th Annual OLV Alumni Crab Feed. I am please to announce that this years Crab Feed was a HUGE success bringing in a net profit of $38,926. WOW! Let’s give a big “ooo-rah” to John Esquivel and Alumni Committee on a job well done.
After such a wonderful night, parents, teachers, and students were all pumped up for the rest of the weeks festivities. On Monday students made cards of appreciation to hand out to parishioners after Mass as a token of gratitude for all their support they give our school throughout the year. Tuesday was pajama day and while students showed off their hilarious sleep attire, they kept up the hard work in their classrooms as they planned for more funfilled activities. Wednesday was service day and students worked together in assembly lines to make roughly 317 sack lunches for the poor. After the lunches were made and assembled, all donations went to Catholic Charities. This was such an uplifting activity to share with the children and I am so proud of their hard work and cooperation to make this service project possible. Thursday students showed off their school pride wearing their Rebel attire as they celebrated Catholic education. Classes participated in fun competions based on curriculum and trivia. On Friday Student Council hosted a 40 minute school wide activity to help foster the value of community within our school. It was wonderful to see all of our students, young and old, having such a good time. Thank you, Student Council!
Sunday we closed out Catholic Schools Week on a very high note. Although the weather was a bit chilly the Open House/Winter Concert was amazing. I want to send a very special thank you to Flor Antonio for leading the the parent volunteers who made a delicious pancake breakfast hospitality for all of our visitors on Sunday morning. I also want to thank Mr. David Shearen, Mr. Tom Nettell, as well as the other teachers involved in our music/choir program for taking time to teach our students the wonderful gift of music. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for Spring Music Concert!
I would like to take a moment and explain my absence from the school throughout the last week and this week. The night of the Crab Feed, my husband and I were in a car accident. Although we seemed fine at the time, I did sustain a concussion and have been on medical leave since last week. I have been following up with the doctors and hope to return to work as soon as possible. If you need to contact me durning my time out, please be patient, leave word in the office, and I will get back to you as soon as I return. Until then, I know the school is in good hands and look forward to hearing about all the happenings that took place while I was out. Go in peace and don’t run in the halls!

St. Blasé (Feast Day: February 3) St. Blase was an Armenian who came from a rich family and was given a Christian education. As a young man, Blase thought about all the sufferings and troubles in the world. He found that only spiritual joys can make a person really happy.
Special Thank You – To all OLV students and families who donated items and put together sack lunches for those less fortunate.
