Thank you is a word that is often over used, so I will say it in another way. I am beholden, appreciative, obliged, pleased and grateful to everyone who helped, donated, purchased and attended this year’s auction. It was a great success!
About 300 hundred people showed up to our auction this year. In attendance were alumni students and parents, the Knights of Columbus, OLV parishioners, OLV faculty, Monsignor Moreton and of course, our current families. The event was outside at the beautiful Holland Park event center. There was a large silent auction area with many fantastic items to bid on. Many thanks to Betty Kempen for taking charge of the silent auction. She is a master at presentation! The sweetshop was well stocked with many delicious treats. Muchas Gracias to those of you who baked for us! The faculty out did themselves this year; their competition deserts looked yummy. My personal favorite was Mrs. Marquez’s OLV cake. I tried to buy it but someone out bid me! I bet it tasted as good as it looked!
There were many people who were involved in our auction and I thank all of them for their efforts. Kudos to Sara McCraw, this year’s auction chair, for organizing our event! She deserves a few days off after all the work she did! A big thank you to Betty Kempen. According to Sara, Betty went above and beyond the call of duty. If I were an army general, I would give them both a purple heart. How about a red and white OLV heart?
A special thank you to Zara Arboleda, of CBS47 This Morning, who was our Mistress of Ceremonies. Together with Jeff Cardinale, OLV parent, they worked the Live Auction and kept the fun and excitement moving!
Now that the weather is cooler and children are wearing their outerwear I have some tips for you:
- Make sure your child’s coat, sweater or sweatshirt is marked with their name on it.
- Only OLV jackets, sweaters and sweatshirts may be worn inside the classroom.
- Your student may wear any jacket to school. Zip up sweatshirts, army shirts and flannel shirts are not considered jackets.
- Only OLV sweatshirts may be worn to school.
I will not strictly enforce our uniform policy until next week. If your child is wearing outer wear that is not uniform next week, they will be asked to take it off!
Our parent club commits to raising $120,000 each year to help lower the cost of tuition. It takes successful fundraising to accomplish that. I appreciate the efforts of the parent club board and the parents at large for making this year’s auction a financial success! It took a great deal of work to make it happen and my hope is that next year more of you will join the auction committee. Remember…”Do your best and let God handle the rest!” Go in peace and don’t run in the halls.
