October 16, 2012

Dear Parents,
I am writing this short message to you while sitting in the jury assembly room at the court house. I have jury duty this week and although this is not the best time to be absent from school, I consider it an honor to serve my community in this way. I am a firm believer in fulfilling my civic duty. I thank you in advance for being patient during my absence and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause the school community.

We have just a few days before our annual auction! I do not yet know which class won the silent auction competition, but I will say the competition was fierce! The teachers and students were very excited about bringing in items and win the pizza lunch and movie. Every item brought in was wonderful and appreciated. Although the competitive spirit was present last week, the reason behind the competition was not forgotten. I am honored and privileged to work in the Our Lady of Victory School Community! You always come through!

Last weekend our teaching staff attended several workshops in Visalia. On Friday the teachers attended a workshop on differentiated instruction. We learned strategies and techniques to improve student instruction. All of our teachers left Friday with a new perspective and new sources of information. On Saturday we traveled back to Visalia, to the annual diocesan religious congress and attended religious workshops. Some of the workshops gave us ideas for religious instruction or how to bring our students a better understanding of our faith. Other classes were designed to enhance the personnel relationships with God our Heavenly Father. I think it is important for all of you to know how professional and devoted our teachers are. I am honored to work alongside them and I appreciate their many efforts and the hard work they give to our community! When you see them next let them know how much you appreciate them.

On a final note…the auction committee is working hard to finalize the preparation for the evening. If you have any free time in the morning or after school, please help us prepare the silent auction items for presentation. Our prayers and thanks go to Sara McCraw and her volunteers for the many hours they are giving to this fundraiser. They honor all of us! Remember …do your best and let God handle the rest. Go in peace and don’t run in the halls.

Sincerely,
Deborah Nettell
